Which Style of Shoe Storage For My Custom Closet?

Maybe you’re a shoe junkie that loves the sight of rows of shoes lined up whenever you stroll into your closet. Or you could be the type of person who can’t stand your precious footwear being exposed to the elements. Or you might be a mixture of both: someone who wants an open view of his or her shoes but wants a moderate level of protection.

If you’re looking for a way to store multiple pairs of unworn shoes, keep in mind that shoe storage can come in various different forms. Whatever method you use will depend heavily on a couple of factors, namely what you like to do with your shoes and how long certain pairs of shoes last before they’re worn out.

In any case, certain shoe storage methods go well with certain preferences. Let’s walk through a few of the options, so you can get a better idea of what works best for you and your shoes.

Angled Shoe Shelves

If you’re the type of person who collects shoes religiously and has to be able to view them at all times, angled shoe shelves are your answer. Angled shoe shelves are incredibly popular and a highly desired feature in custom closet designs. The biggest draw of angled shoe shelves is that they allow you to see more of your shoes at a glance. Couple them with toe stops and you’ve got a nicely looking shoe storage set-up.

Flat Shoe Shelves

Flat shoe shelves are similar to their angled brethren but differ in a couple regards. First off, flat shoe shelves are much cheaper than angled ones and provide more vertical storage space for your footwear. In addition, flat shelves can house slightly taller shoes such as boots, whereas angled shelves will caused top heavy shoes to tip over easily. While they may not provide as much of a viewing experience of your shoes like angled shelves, they are still an excellent option for those who want a bit more customizable options.

Shoe Cubbies

This shoe storage option can be labeled as the “safe” way to store shoes. Cubbies are recommended to those who don’t have as many shoes but are still intent on protecting each and every one. The catch here is that they want to see their shoes but want protection at the same time. There’s no denying their form and function.

Whatever option you decide to go with for your shoes, they should stay looking great for a long time.
