Designing a Dual-Purpose Room

See how Closet Factory transformed a home office into a dual-purpose guest room with a custom wall bed and built-in cabinetry, creating a multifunctional space that blends productivity with hospitality.

The Project

Creating A Home Office &
Guest Room

When interior designers Stacy and Ashlee Hughes, known as the Go2Girls, were asked to create a home office for their client, they envisioned a beautiful, functional workspace that could also double as a warm and inviting guest suite. With grown children who visit regularly, the client needed a room that could do it all without feeling like a compromise in either direction.

The challenge was to design a dual-purpose room that felt equally polished as a home office and a guest room. To bring that vision to life, the Go2Girls partnered with Closet Factory, where the solution centered around one game-changing element: a custom wall bed built into elegant, full-height cabinetry.

Transforming the Room with a
Wall Bed and Custom Cabinetry

  • A Wall Bed Concealed in Custom Cabinetry

When closed, the custom wall unit looks like striking built-in cabinetry with clean shaker panels and brass-accented handles that tie into the space’s light, airy aesthetic. But with a simple pull, it transforms into a cozy, full-size bed ready for overnight guests. The cabinetry was precisely built to frame the wall bed and disappear seamlessly into the rest of the system, making the bed feel like a natural extension of the room, not a pop-out feature.

  • Custom Built-Ins with Designer Flair

Surrounding the wall bed on both sides are symmetrical bookshelves with thoughtful styling opportunities. Closed storage below keeps essentials out of sight, while built-in ventilation grilles and soft-close cabinetry reflect the attention to both detail and comfort.

  • A Space That Transitions with Ease

The design makes use of every inch, balancing open shelving with concealed storage, and layering textures through terracotta flooring, a woven light fixture, and a soft patterned rug that grounds the entire space. When the bed is down, it’s a peaceful retreat. When it’s up, it’s a workspace ready for anything, complete with custom office cabinetry built for productivity.
