Sustainability
Working with Closet Factory means partnering with a company that values sustainability and eco-conscious practices. Our custom closet, office, and garage solutions not only meet your organizational needs but also align with your project’s sustainability goals.
Sourcing Wood Responsibly
We source responsibly: our plywood is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), ensuring adherence to rigorous environmental standards. We also use particleboard and Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) substrates made from 100% recycled wood. Our materials comply with California Air Resources Board (CARB) emission standards and NAUF (No Added Urea Formaldehyde) requirements, with many carrying FSC certification.
To further reduce our environmental footprint, each Closet Factory location across the United States and Canada sources wood locally—supporting regional economies, minimizing shipping, and lowering carbon emissions.
Closet Factory
offers sustainable materials that are formaldehyde-free and low in VOCs
At Closet Factory, sustainability isn’t an afterthought—it’s built into our core values.
Wood is a material we use often. It remains one of the most environmentally responsible natural resources available: it’s renewable, recyclable, and naturally biodegradable. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, and when mature trees are harvested and replanted with younger ones, the cycle continues, supporting long-term ecological balance.
Our broad material choices reflect this commitment. We partner only with manufacturers who responsibly manage forest lands, ensuring that every piece of wood we use supports sustainable practices. From wood veneer and melamine with particle board to MDF substrates made entirely from recycled fibers, our products are designed to minimize volatile organic compounds (VOC).
We also take special care with finishes. Many clients worry about emissions from solvent-based stains, so we rely exclusively on water-based alternatives. This approach reduces off-gassing, dries quickly, and creates safer manufacturing conditions for our employees and the environment.
Beyond wood, we incorporate innovative resin products made from R4 recycled resins. Our primary supplier, Lumicor, operates a closed-loop facility, reuses thermal energy from its own processes, and participates in nationwide recycling programs. Their approach allows us to offer resin materials that are beautiful and environmentally responsible.
Closet Factory is also proud to support organizations that champion green building, including the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). We know our clients care deeply about their carbon footprint, and we promise to provide eco-friendly options that align with their values. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Sustainability is a guiding principle that helps us protect natural resources and preserve the beauty of our landscapes for future generations. Closet Factory is proud to uphold this commitment in everything we do.
Closet Factory partners with local, sustainable manufacturers and suppliers so every wood material we use supports quality craftsmanship and environmental responsibility. Our partners also ensure lumber byproducts never go to waste—redirecting them into composite panels or biomass plants to create new sustainable materials and clean energy.
Every Closet Factory showroom and warehouse takes part in efforts to protect the environment. Our facilities recycle wood left over from manufacturing and everyday materials like paper, bottles, aluminum cans, and cardboard. We’re equally mindful of conserving water and energy. From installing low-flush toilets to using LED fixtures and other energy-efficient lighting, we design our spaces to minimize resource use. Whenever possible, we rely on natural light to reduce the need for electricity.
