How Custom Design Transformed This Home

What started as a simple project evolved into a full transformation of both his-and-hers custom closets, turning frustration into function with the help of thoughtful, professional design.

A Closet Designed to Fit His Life

Anne explained that their primary closets were previously designed by another company but just weren’t working. They lacked smart storage and weren’t tailored to their needs. That’s where our process began.

During our consultation, we focused on Erwin’s needs: more hanging space, better storage for shoes and folded clothes, and accessibility in a narrow space. The solution?

A Tag Pant Rack, Lingerie Drawer, Sliding Belt Rack, and Tie Rack—all designed to keep accessories organized but out of sight
A two-wall layout for improved flow in the narrow space
Custom measurements of his suits to ensure a proper fit in the double-hang sections

The result? A design Anne and Erwin both loved—one that finally made use of their overflow space.

Rethinking the Primary Closet

As we wrapped up the overflow closet design, Anne mentioned her ongoing struggle with the original primary closet. When I offered to take a look, she eagerly accepted.

Her Closet: More Accessible, More Usable

Anne’s existing closet had shelving galore—but hardly any hanging space. Worse, the rods were too high for her to reach, and the narrow layout felt cramped.

My custom solution included:

Lowering rods for easy access
Relocating drawers to free up the entry area
Increasing hanging capacity with a double-hang system
Replacing oversized, poorly spaced shelves with shorter, built-in shelving that accounted for wall obstructions

This gave the space a better flow, more storage, and a truly custom design that felt like it belonged in the home.

His Closet: Organized With Intention

Erwin’s primary closet had similar issues—too many open shelves and tricky wall obstructions that blocked pull-outs. To solve this:

I integrated cubbies and a bank of pull-out trays
Designed around the obstructions to ensure every component was usable
Added double-hang space and another Tag Pant Rack for structured functionality
