As an Owner of the Portland location, I directly help my clients on individual projects and make sure all the designers have the resources and tools necessary to create beautiful, functional spaces. I also love Closet Factory because we can scale a project to meet the organizational needs, personal style, and budgetary requirements for each and every one of our clients.
“We love the wall bed / desk unit that Closet Factory installed in our townhouse. Everyone who sees it is blown away! We have enjoyed it thoroughly in the 18 months since it was installed.”

“How do you first approach a space? In other words, what’s the first thing you think about when you first see a client’s closet space/storage problem?”
All spaces are different and each client has different needs. My first thought is how can we make the space and solution into something that is the best solution for the client.
“What is the biggest design obstacle you’ve overcome? i.e. awkwardly angled walls, electrical sockets in bizarre places, big collections in small spaces.”
One of the biggest design obstacles came from a butler’s station in the basement of an older and tastefully remodeled home. It wasn’t that there was one single obstacle, but rather multiple obstacles in one space. These included pluming for the sink, crawl space access in a wall, power for the wine fridge and microwave and a tiled floor sloped to accommodate a drain.
“Since collaboration is such an integral part of the design process, how do you like to engage or connect with clients in order to help them realize their vision for a space?”
Collaboration with the client is the most important thing Closet Factory designers can do. We work WITH clients to understand their goals and then use our background and design tools to give them the benefit of 1,000’s of other projects, design trends and styles. How do we collaborate? By asking questions and listening…
“How are you inspired by a home’s existing décor? Is there anything specific that you look for during an in-home consultation?”
I like to look for ways for the organization and style of the project to fit INTO the home. Fitting into the home could be through the client’s lifestyle or organizational needs. However, taking cues from the home and home owner allows for the final design to blend into the style of the home.
“What are some ways a custom designed home office can improve productivity? In other words, how does the right type of home office help people do business?”
A home office helps people in two aspects. First a home office typically allows the Client to have a more organized home life. The work of the household now has a place. Because an organized home life exists, the business work of the office can really take shape in an efficient and organized manner. Having an office that fits the lifestyle, business needs and style of the home is really the best spot.
Each of our custom closets is completely personalized and begins with a complimentary design appointment.
