My name is Kathleen Bonanno and I have been a resident of Monmouth county for over 23 years. I first came to Closet Factory in 1991. My background in interior design and project planning enables me to utilize my creative talent for organizing and space planning for my clients. Details always make the difference, and my penchant for detail and managing a project from start to finish comes across in all of my designs. The best feeling is when I see how excited my clients are when their visions come to life!
“The closet looks great! The installer was wonderful, no mess. Best Father’s Day gift. It looks amazing! Thanks again.”

“How do you first approach a space? In other words, what’s the first thing you think about when you first see a client’s closet space/storage problem?”
Maximizing space is key so I take into account how the space is not working, take inventory of current and future needs and visualize creative ways to utilize every square inch. Every client is different so I try to zero in on his or her individual style and personal preferences.
“What is the biggest design obstacle you’ve overcome? i.e. awkwardly angled walls, electrical sockets in bizarre places, big collections in small spaces.”
Almost every home or space has design challenges but one in particular stands out: a clients’ historic home, which had a closet the depth of 10-inches, plaster walls and angled ceilings.
“Since collaboration is such an integral part of the design process, how do you like to engage or connect with clients in order to help them realize their vision for a space?”
Listening is key. So is capturing a client’s personal style. Seeing any inspirational photos they may have for the space helps me zero in on a person’s likes and dislikes. In order to meet and exceed their expectations it’s important to help them prioritize their needs.
“How are you inspired by a home’s existing décor? Is there anything specific that you look for during an in-home consultation?”
The home’s design, color scheme or décor says a lot about an individual’s personal style. Do they like simplicity with clean lines, enjoy an updated traditional look or like to bring in a little glamour and glitz?
“What are some ways a custom designed home office can improve productivity? In other words, how does the right type of home office help people do business?”
A workspace that is not only functional but beautiful can help inspire and motivate. Taking advantage of natural light, incorporating ample desktop space, dedicated charging stations out and ample open and closed storage solutions can facilitate workflow and ease stress. I also consider placement of electronics, seating, desk height and more.
“What are some modern organizational trends, or what’s a trend you’re looking for?”
Ornate trims and finishes boost the room’s character and overall look. Various trim options can also camouflage irregular wall gaps, or conceal damage. Advances in technology has led to motion-activated lights, as well as LED lights that appear in cabinetry.
