I joined the Closet Factory in 2014 after many years of being told by family and friends that I should help others with their organizational needs. I have always been a firm believer in “A place for everything and everything in its place.” Working with Closet Factory has given me the opportunity to combine my love of design and desire for organization to help others. I recently designed the remodel and addition on my own home, including Closet Factory for all of our storage needs.
I am married with three grown children and love spending time at the river or just being outside. I’ve created some of my best designs while sitting on the beach or on a 2-5 mile run.
“I contacted Closet Factory and they sent Cecelia to meet with me. I like organized and neat, however I am married to a collector. She was incredible! She didn’t judge the mess in my husbands “collectors room” – instead she designed these wonderful storage units to hold all of my husband’s comics, magazines and posters. She did such a great job we asked her back to design our books shelves in our family room.”

“How do you first approach a space? In other words, what’s the first thing you think about when you first see a client’s closet space/storage problem?”
When I first approach a space I look at how my client is currently using it and note issues with the layout. I quickly visualize the potential to maximize storage while keeping it consistent to their current use. It is less disruptive to their lives if I can keep it consistent although sometimes they appreciate the space being completely reorganized.
“What is the biggest design obstacle you’ve overcome? i.e. awkwardly angled walls, electrical sockets in bizarre places, big collections in small spaces.”
My biggest challenge was my comic book collector. Finding a way to store and display his collection without compromising the integrity of the comics and magazines was my challenge. Creating the inventory list of his comics and filling the display unit was his challenge. I was able to use both my since of organization to make his wife happy with my creativity to make my client happy.
“Since collaboration is such an integral part of the design process, how do you like to engage or connect with clients in order to help them realize their vision for a space?”
Being able to show 3D drawings as we design helps my client see what their new space will look like.
“How are you inspired by a home’s existing décor? Is there anything specific that you look for during an in-home consultation?”
When I walk into a client’s home, I take note of their organizational style. Some clients like everything to be symmetrical while others just want storage.
“What are some modern organizational trends, or what’s a trend you’re looking for?”
Who needs to take up extra space with a sheetrock wall when I can build on both sides of a section to divide a closet or create one. Sometimes I can make the biggest difference in the smallest spaces. Also, I like to add a little contrast or accent piece in my design if the space allows. The art is in the detail.
