I joined the Hampton Roads team of designers back in 2009 and haven’t looked back since! As a Closet Factory designer, I’m able to use my experience in design, as well as my imagination, to create both functional and beautiful spaces.
I was a painting contractor prior to relocating to the Norfolk Virginia area in 1994, but I’ve been creating art since I was old enough to be able to hold a pencil, use scissors, and open a bottle of glue! Moving to another state was the perfect opportunity for me to pursue my passion for art and design.
After returning to school, I gained my certification in home staging and organization, and trained in space planning. I went on to earn a degree in Interior Design, studying both commercial and residential design.
I strive daily to work hard, solve every challenge I’m faced with, and help my clients lead more organized, less stressful lives.
“Carol was amazing. She came to my home and put her talent to work, taking her time to create a comfy and functional mud room area, as well as the most awesome shoe closet. She was friendly, patient, helpful and just so great to work with. The designs came out amazing and look great in my home! I can’t wait to have her out for my next project! Carol rocks! “

MY FAQ’s:
“How do you first approach a space? In other words, what’s the first thing you think about when you first see a client’s closet space/storage problem?”
The first thing I consider are my surroundings. I can learn a lot about my client by observing their decor and even their clothing. I can make color and design choices early and logically because I already see what they like.
“What is the biggest design obstacle you’ve overcome? i.e. awkwardly angled walls, electrical sockets in bizarre places, big collections in small spaces.”
The biggest challenge for me is when I design a home entertainment center and I have to figure out a solution for all those loose wires. Wire management is huge! We don’t want to see it and there is always a lot of it. It’s a challenge and deserves much thought and collaboration.
“Since collaboration is such an integral part of the design process, how do you like to engage or connect with clients in order to help them realize their vision for a space?”
There is always something I see in or around the clients home that I like. I assume that, since they have it, they like it as well. It’s an easy way to make a connection and it’s comfortable for everyone since it’s about something we like or have in common.
“How are you inspired by a home’s existing décor? Is there anything specific that you look for during an in-home consultation?”
“What are some ways a custom designed home office can improve productivity? In other words, how does the right type of home office help people do business?”
For me, it’s about having everything I need available to me. When designing an office, we really need to know how it’s being used and who is using it. The other thing I feel is important is the human body itself. We need to be comfortable, so we need to know who we are designing for. Someone who is 5’4″ has different needs than someone who is 6’4″. Are they left handed or right handed? What type of chair will they use? We need to ask smart, thoughtful questions or the client may as well just purchase a cookie-cutter desk from an office supply store.
“What are some modern organizational trends, or what’s a trend you’re looking for?”
