I have been designing now for 20 years. I have been designing closets for a little over 2 years and I have really enjoyed the process that is involved.
From meeting with the clients and getting to know them, understanding their needs and lifestyle has been one of the most fun things about my job. It allows me to get very specific in the things that they need based on their life. I have loved seeing the final product and the look on my clients’ faces when they actually see their vision come to life. It truly makes my job gratifying in so many ways!
MY ADVICE:
“It was a joy to work with Bonnie Leavitt. When I initially contacted her office to begin the process for several built-in closet organizers for our home, she came over with detailed ideas on design. She presented everything clearly and gave many different options, enhanced by her professional opinion and good aesthetic. She was attentive to my many phone calls, always accessible, flexible, and saw to my personal needs and adjustments with such a positive attitude. I was always comfortable contacting her. When there was a small snag, she was supportive and made sure that I was treated more than fairly and helped to resolve the issue. I would highly recommend her work and services.”

MY FAQ’s:
“How do you first approach a space? In other words, what’s the first thing you think about when you first see a client’s closet space/storage problem?”
The first thing I do when I meet with a new client is to look at the personal style of each person. Whether its formal, casual, conservative or funky, that is always a tell tell sign as to what they may be looking for in a closet design.
“What is the biggest design obstacle you’ve overcome? i.e. awkwardly angled walls, electrical sockets in bizarre places, big collections in small spaces.”
I like to walk into the space itself. That will show me how I will begin the design process. Is there windows, heating elements, high ceilings to consider when designing the space? I also like to ask if there will need to be a his and hers side. I almost always get a funny and direct answer and I love that! She always wants the large side, and he is most always fine with that.
“Since collaboration is such an integral part of the design process, how do you like to engage or connect with clients in order to help them realize their vision for a space?”
When starting the design process, it is important to start out simple and keep to the budget. (and we all have them) .There is nothing more disappointing than to have the design come back and be way out of your price range. Everyone can have a beautiful and functional closet, and it is possible to keep the cost where you would like it. Start simple and add extras where and if you can and desire to do so.
“How are you inspired by a home’s existing décor? Is there anything specific that you look for during an in-home consultation?”
I can design a simple and cost effective closet or an elegant and elaborate closet. Whatever your needs and lifestyle dictate!
