Green Cleaners

The more I find out about household cleaners, the more interested I am in finding green solutions. I don’t want to expose the people or pets in my house to toxic substances if there is a safer alternative. There are a few ingredients that have been around for generations. I decided to give some of them a try and see which ones worked.

The first thing I had to do was to go shopping. I am letting you know what I suggest you buy. Some of these things you may already have at your house.

  • Bottle of White vinegar
  • 1 Box of Borax
  • Baking Soda – large bag or box
  • Lemons
  • Olive Oil

Use these recipes for each part of the home. Try each one. If you like one, use that method for cleaning instead of store-bought cleaning products.

Shower Cleaner

  • ¼ cup Borax
  • Bucket of hot water

Mix ingredients and use on all tile and porcelain surfaces in the bathroom.

Glass Cleaner

  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • 2 cups of water

Mix ingredients and put in a spray bottle.

Kitchen Sink Deodorizer

  • ¼ wedge of lemon

Place lemon in the garbage disposal. Run water and turn on garbage disposal until lemon is gone.

Wood Cleaner

  • 2 parts olive oil
  • 1 part lemon juice

Use small amount of mixture on wood furniture. Use a soft cloth to spread and wipe off.

Wood Floors

  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 gallon of warm water

Make sure water is warm when mixing this to clean floors, and use it right away

Oven Cleaner

  • Baking soda
  • Water

Mix two ingredients to form a paste. Spread paste in oven and let sit overnight. Scrub the following day and wipe with a clean cloth and water.
