Home office solutions are often in a room of their own but what happens when they aren’t? It means that your home office design should always combine functionality with an aesthetic that complements the rest of the house.
Take a look at one client’s story, in which the family room became the location for their new home office. The great thing about this kind of wall unit is that it is versatile and works well in many different kinds of spaces.
This client had a very special challenge as the home office was a highly visible feature and also needed to integrate a large flat-screen TV. “We needed something to fit the TV and all of its audio and visual components, as well as all of the computer components,” she says. The resulting built-in wall unit opened up all kinds of storage space, including a file drawer, tall cabinet with shelves and a pullout keyboard shelf.
To keep the area looking airy and light, the designer thoughtfully kept the space clear around the TV instead of enclosing it. The home office design is in the Shaker style, which closely matches the aesthetic of the rest of the home. “We look at our wall unit a lot since that is where the TV is,” comments the client. “So I have to say we’ve enjoyed it very much!”
