    A pilaster is a flat-column structural support that projects slightly from the wall or cabinet framework.  Composed of a rectangular shaft, a base, and a capital, often they are embellished with beaded trim moulding, flutes, acanthus leaf carvings and other classically styled decoration. 

    The end result is a design with strong vertical lines, aristocratic luxury, and the look of authority.
